Bird Photography in Croatia

Red-rumped Swallow

This May 2022 I guided in three different areas of the Balkan Peninsula (Montenegro, Kerkini, Prespa). To each of them I have devoted an own blog, each of them had its special charm and all had attractive birds. I would now like to focus on a small area around Zadar/Croatia which we used as a stopover several times. Both on the way south and then also on the way back up north we stopped for a few days to relax and then guided short bird photography trips of 4 days for very small groups of friends. Looking back now at all the trips and looking at the photographic results I must say that related to the distance to travel and the money and trouble it costs, this small region in northern Dalmatia wins the prize.

In mid April we had still had found many migrant waders on the lake shore, but now they were all gone. A large group of Glossy Ibises had taken their place at the end of April 2022:

Glossy Ibis, Brauner Sichler

Turtle Dove

Cetti's Warbler

Scops Owl

Hoopoe

Golden Oriole

We came back a month later, end of May, and got good shots of special birds:
